The course will beginning in March, 19 2010, with coordination of Dr. Gilson Luis Roberto.

Day and time of classes: on Fridays from 6pm to 10pm and on Saturdays from 8am to 12am and 1pm to 5pm.

Objectives

  • Develop the concept of multidimensionality and interconnection of Being
  • Recognizing spirituality as something inherent in the human psyche and its importance to physical and mental health.
  • Reflect on the paradigm shift that arises when adding a spiritual dimension in the approach to the patient.
    Provide a reflection on the intrinsic and extrinsic religiosity in the search for a better quality of life and health.

  • Know the meaning of religious and spiritual coping.
  • Reframe the importance of religious / spiritual practices in promoting physical and mental health.
  • Understand the physiological and biochemical mechanisms involved in belief.
  • Identify the main lines of research on health and spirituality.
  • Reflect on new therapeutic possibilities with the inclusion of the spiritual dimension in clinical practice.
  • Prepare health professionals to talk about religion and spirituality in clinical practice.
  • Reflect on the ethical issues involved in the medical approach of spirituality and patients.
  • Articulate the key concepts in relation thanatology Health and Spirituality.
  • Encouraging the human values that make up the spirituality.
  • Emphasize the need for compassion and love as the foundation in patient care.
  • Demonstrate the importance of spirituality for the humanization of hospital care.
